    SBC running temp question

Ok here goes , rods been on the road for 10 years now and has always ran around the 200f mark ,sometimes a bit more sometimes less . On the way home from Billing yesterday , cruising down motorway between 55 / 60 mph temp went up to about 210/215 ( i know it was a hot day ) , turned off at junction and slowed to 40/45 mph and temp returned to usual . Question is , i'm wondering if the coolant is being passed through the rad to quickly at the higher speeds (HIGHER rpm) and not staying in the rad for long enough to cool down . Stat is 160 degree f. Must also add it's never boiled up , any ideas welcome , thx .

either that or you have exhaust gasses entering the water under load

Also, the 160 thermostat doesn't do anything other than open earlier than the 180, it doesn't help with the cooling at all. Rog.

I've had this problem on various cars of my own and others .However 2 of mine had the same cause which took a little while to figure out. Basically alternator was overcharging and made it read hot at high speeds , slow down and the temp would drop faster than the law of physics would allow. Only got to the bottom of the the first time but stopping as soon as the reading went high and running an infra thermometer over it.
