    I commissioned Smax Smith to build me a 400 horse smallblock.
    He used this block, which has had a braze repair done between the two centre cylinders.
    After a few hundred miles it must have expanded/contracted and slowly let go.
    Eventually leading to a water leak and the mill hydrolocking.
    The engine has a well documented list (on here a few years ago) of disgraceful bodges.
    (and it only made 230bhp on a rolling road)

    I'd say that horizontal crack would just open straight back up as the torqued down head bolts may 'pull' that weak spot apart !?

    My block went to a Wild Bunch drag team who didnt need coolant in it

    Thanks Jim. This engine may still be useful for someone not running coolant I suppose. Didn't think of that.

    The location of the brazing in your case is a bit different and obviously subjected to higher temps.
    I'm toying with the idea of torquing the heads down first so the block is stretched already. Dunno. Probably just desperately clinging on to a lost cause. But I need to try something.
    Back welding 1/2" at a time may work But I don't have a welder.

    trouble is could you trust this engine on a run,or when out will it be at the back of your mind wondering if it going to get you there.
