Speedo light workaround for mot?
My sons Seat whatsitsname has a failed speedo illumination. Dealers reckon its £600 to change the offending part, about an hours work involved. They reckon it wont pass the mot test until its fixed. I wondered if an external stuck-on lamp plugged in the cigar lighter plug coukd be a workaround. Would this fault just be an advisory anyway? Any thoughts?

Can't he just stop under a streetlight when he wants to see how fast he's going?
I'll get me coat...

Possibilities there. Perhaps a link wire to the light switch circuit. Thinking how modern cars are wired I dont think so. I assume there must be a way the light is controlled automatically. A photocell to control the led? It would need to be powered by the car electrics and not an independent source. Think on.

You could try and get it MOTd as it is and see what happens, chances are it'll be missed.

Thinks .......... do modern cars haveva dimming system forbthe instrument lights? My old 1998 Jeeo has a slider switch but by now maybe its automatic. Perhaos its dimmed itself and a reset might do something? Perhaps disconnect battery for a few minutes?
