Any ideas how to soften the ride on my 54 Chevy 3100. I don't want to go to the air ride system. Just to tweak it. Especially at the rear.

You could try removing a couple of springs although trucks ride better with some weight in the back
Have you stripped it all down and repacked everything? The leaves bind together and once it stops taking grease in the pivots it doesn't work properly. I know the parabolic springs on Landrovers are a popular mod. Not sure what the availability is for a Ford/Chevy truck but I'd be surprised if it wasn't an option. Hopefully someone can advise?
As Billy says above Eddie, they can bind up so take them apart, make sure all the bushes are good and getting grease and also separate all the leafs, clean and grease them too so they slip better. As Russ says, they ride better loaded so drop a couple of paving slabs in the back
