    Still no joy from holley 800D/P

    I'm still getting a rally bad stumble from idle on my '69 pontiac 400 with an 800 D/P carb. I know that everyone will say that carb is too big but it ran absolutely fine last year. Ive upped the accelerator pump nozzle in the primary from a 31 to a 40 but still exactly the same. When I first fitted this carb last year it was to try to see if I could get into the 13's from a regular 14.2. It immediately done a 13.8 so obviously didn't have a problem then. Any suggestions please?
    If it's got tits or tyres, its gonna be trouble

    post the model no up. DP's have different linkages for progressive opening, do both open together or one marginally after ? You'd also need to match the shooters size and diaphragm, especially if you're running a dual plane manifold. Unless it's pumping out black smoke when you floor it, it's still likely a lean stumble. Start with a vacuum gauge, set the idle mixture and fast idle speed. Check the timing, ensure you have enough initial timing for it to advance cleanly. Check the diaphragm in the pump shot housing/s isn't split. Check the clearance on the linkage is giving a quick and sustained shot. Keep going up on shooter until it fowls plugs then back it down. Also check the power valve isn't split or hung open. Plugs and exhaust port should give you some feedback. If you've got fouled plugs pop it in the vice by the hex section and take a blow torch to it, burn off all the soot.

    Thanks WB54. I don't know the model number. I know it opens the primaries quite a while before the secondaries. This all worked fine last season though.
