    Tacho with MSD??

    Hi,

I'm running an MSD pro billet dissy with MSD 6AL control box and want to fit tacho (probably moon/Sunpro or similar). Have read confilcting info, some saying that you do have to use a tach adapter and some saying its not neccesary, anyone got any advice? if I do need an adapter, which one? or is it worth getting tach first and just wiring it normally and see what happens?

Also what would be the maximum revs you can run a standard 350 SBC up to (1980 engine from a motorcaravan) ??

    Cheers, Gav.

Gav, msd will work with almost all tachos, you can get the compatibility chart from the MSD website if you dont have the instructions, it will tell you which adapter [if any] you need ,DO NOT WIRE IT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS, WITHOUT CHECKING THE WIRING DIAGRAMS, at best it wont work, and at worst it will fry the tacho. You wont need an adapter for a moon guage as I'm using one with my 7531. Moon guages are autometer anyway. If you use a tach that does I have an old adapter n a box somewhere you can have ... (if you need it!)

mark, nightmares racing , has had all sorts of problems, got the tach adaptor and still it didnt work, get somone to check the output from the msd box before spending any cash, looks like marks msd is faulty and not putting out the correct voltage.

Thanks for the advice will have a look at website. Don't think its fake, brought it secondhand from swapmeet, but looks correct and does'nt have any of the signs mentioned for dodgy units.

    Adam,
Did the Moon tacho conect to coil or does it have to go direct to tach output on MSD?

thanks for the offer of adapter, will see how it goes.

    trevd,

can the output be tested with multimeter, or does it need a secialist bit kit?

    cheers, Gav.

If you haven't already got the tach and need a new dizzy - then you could always buy an MSD dizzy with mechanical tach drive?
