    is the motor demountable to check it can turn -it looks so from your pics -perhaps it has a coupling to the pump and you could turn that too, with it off ,to confirm its all free

    I didn't want to steam in taking it all to bits when it could be something simple, still familiarising myself with the setup and will test solenoid first. Then i'll get into the more serious stuff. Cheers.

    I've bypassed the solenoid and got the lift moving. So that's the motor is good and it's getting voltage to the solenoid. I'm still a bit unsure of the wiring arrangements and how it actually works so i'm not going definitive on the solenoid being bad although it looks that way. Oh the up/down switch works too.

    Picking up a couple of litres of hydraulic fluid on Friday so will carry on diagnosing once that's in. At least I can get the tail lift open now!
