    Tri Chevy rear brakes

    Hi all,

Does anyone know if the REAR brake shoes on a 57 Pontiac are the same as those fitted on a tri chevy?
I have a feeling they are, most bits are interchangeable.
the rear shoes on my 57 poncho are down to the rivots, and i am having trouble locating a replacement set.
but if they are the same for sure, than locating shoes for a tri chevy is much easier,
but i am a bit reluctant to spend my money on a set until i know for sure.
thanks in advance for any replies.
    very much appreciated.
    cheers .

    Hi

Your find that 10 Bolt Gen 1 & 2 Camaro's are the same as stock Tri chevy's drum size, back plates etc: I would have thought 57 Pontiac has the same axle as stock Tri Chevy's .... I bought some Camaro brake shoe's In the states for my 57 & they fitted a treat... hope that helps
The car is open, the keys are under the dog !

'57 to '62 Olds & Pontiac axles are the same so it'd be a fair bet the brakes are too.
How'd the weekend go? Well, at the moment it looks like a dolphin that's been caught in a boats propeller.

    Re: Tri Chevy rear brakes

The Olds/Pontiac rear was a heavy duty axle and a popular replacement into a Chevy as a performance upgrade. It's a long time since I've played with the Pontiac rear but my guess is that the brakes are bigger. I have to stress that is a guess though based on a vague memory so can't tell you 100%. Can you not get your shoes relined? May have to be mail ordered these days but still possible.
It's been hard in recent years to buy parts for the Olds/Pontiac rears but as the nostalgia trend has kicked in people are producing a few mods/parts for them so maybe worth a real good search on the net.
    Sorry to be somewhat vague.
