    Exclamationurgent help needed please

hi just seen a rover sdi 3500 1978, with a range rover 4.6 engine in it....
with manual gearbox....car drove great...but low oil pressure at 20-29psi,,
opened up oil filler neck which protrudes about 3 inches...had that creamy gunk all inside.....also when i pulled out dip stick same there oil and creamy gunk....said that might because cars not used a lot..?????
we then went for a 15 minute drive..i checked the oil again....mixture of both oil and creamy gunk....any ideas ....please....

Oil pressure sounds about right for a Rover. Could have head gasket blown or cracked head or block as worst case. Was there A/ freeze in rad? Milky residue in oil filler could be condesation but oil like mayo on the dipstick shows a significant amount of water has got into oil.

walk away or haggle like a loony mate, the 4.6 is a notorious engine for f'ing up.
best to swap it out for a tvr tuned one or a 3.9.

once the oil is contaminated it wont clear mate, you need to flush it out & change the oil.
it could well be condenation it depends on the journey lenghts it's had & wether its been booted from cold.
my mrs had a fiesta that always creamed up the rockerbox even though i
cleaned/checked/stripped/rebuilt it! had to put it down to short journey driving in the end.

i bought a 4.6 a while back it was very cheap as the block had slipped a liner in(if i remember correctly) number 1 cylinder.it was already in bits.
bought a new 4.0 block from v8 tuner(better block than the 4.6 and everything is interchangeable) pressure tested everything 100%,then swapped eveything from the 4.6 to the 4.0,well worth it in the end.the 4.0 block was about £380.

If its got mayo on the dipstick after a half hour drive its a got more water in the oil than from condensation IMO , there's a leak into the oil somewhere . As others have said , head gasket at best , cracked block at worst . Haggle on the worst and ask yourself why he's really selling it so soon after purchase ...
I joined a nudest colony the other week . The first few days were the hardest ...
