    v6 into 53 consul advise

Hello out there. This has probabaly been asked befor but i'm after some advice.
I have a mk 1 consul less engine and box that has been kicking around for a few years now gathering dust, and have just accuired a free v6 and autobox from a junked reliant.
will the v6 with a front bulged sump go into the consul without cutting the bulkhead?
also i want to retain the standard strutts and steering setup. although uprating the springs is no problem. I know mk3 Zodiac front discs will fit the consul stubaxle's useing a 1/4 inch spacer and mk1 wheel bearings, but do any of you haveany experiance of what callipers to use? Nich

I doubt that the V6 will go in with no cutting, the front drop sump is the best you can use, but the Mk1 Consul has a very short engine bay. Even the stock engie looks to long in there. But you may br lucky. On the calipers, I'd go for late Cortina/ capri type, cheap and easy to find, or maybe look into some of the newer sliding caliper types, you gon have to make the brackets so the choise is yours.
    Good Luck
    Martin.

You might be better fitting mk1 or maybe mk2 zodiac struts, as these already have discs. You may have a problem fitting brackets to mk 1 consul struts as the only fixings are the bolt holes that hold the backplate and a plate thick enough to carry calipers may foul on the hub .Hope this is some help Pete

Not all Mk 2 Zody struts are disc, they were an option up till 61 ish. But you could fit mk2 drum struts and use the mk2 drum brakes, they are very good.I had them on a Consul with a Pinto that I drove like I stole it, never had a problem with brake fade.

Thanks for the info, dropped the block in today the bay is just big enough to take it but the bulkhead stops me setting the engine far enough back to clear the steering tie-bar with the flywheel, so it looks like its cutting time, as for the front brakes, when i got the car it came with 2 new old stock legs, we have stacks of uprated springs kicking around from when we used to rally mk1 & 2 escorts, and as I must have broken a dozen mk3 's over the last 3 1/2 decades disks and front hubs are stacked waist high in a corner of one of the sheds, it just seems a shame not to use some of them, have already fitted mk3 zephyr 6 back brake assembly, as it has so much more contact area. played around with loads of mk3's but this is my first mk1
