    vauxhall fd upgrades..

    hi all..

just bought a victor fd..to make into something cool..
its moted! but as a 1600 has drum brakes!!!!they wont do!!

i am looking to mods to convert into discs..i dont care about wheel stud pattern as long as can convert rear axle to same..
it runs double wishbone front suspension and live rear axle on coils..

i dont have it yet (waiting on transportation) but need to get my head around how to convert.

before you say fit 2000-3300 victor brakes which would be good! try to find some!!!

so has anyone on here any ideas which setup might fit with the minium of effort (read cash)

car will be running 200hp of so, nothing drastic but sensible..(omega v6 jag 3.2 v8 ??)

    thanks simon

These people list two brake discs for the FD BDS5166 255x10 and BDS4034 252x10 you would have to make up brackets for the calipers. You would possibly have to change the master cylinder as well. I would change to a dual master cylinder so you have one circuit for the front and one for the back

    hi
thanks, but how does one fit a drake disc to a drum brake setup?will need the hubs etc...which is the issue...none about

been doing some googling....and wondering about complatability between vauxhall and gm..ie chevy nova brakes..there are kits to convert drums to discs for nova amd other gm motors at resonable prices...and one gets an 11 inch vented setup too..but will they fit?
google Right Stuff Detailing Disc Brake Conversion Kits..

do the drums remove from the stock hubs? if so find a disc that will fit over the hub and there's your starting point. you may need to turn the diameter of the hub down to fit inside the new disc but it is doable. if you get stuck i can help/get this conversion done for you and i'm not a million miles away. regards, neil. 07718 339011.

    hi neil

i would have thought the drums were removable..makes sense that they are..
so am i getting this right...?
remove drums..make adapter plate from say 10mm steel to hold calipers..this steel would be bolted onto hubs, hopefully where drum backing plate bolts to?
then somehow get some discs to fit over hub..discs held on by wheel..????

but if thats how done wont it bring caliper way out??

trying to see this in my head...

the brakes i mentioned above are cool..but not sure if will fit..the disc on them is also the wheel bearing carrier..but that way it keeps disc nice and close to inner of hub..

could you explain what you mean more please?..and yes am interested if it can be done...though i see getting decent big vented discs to fit the fd hub (4 stud 4inch pcd) may be an issue..prehaps fitting totaly different hubs if possible ..say vauxhall omega. ford scorpio?? may also work if one can get caster etc correct..

ps need to fund all this.(cos i can see it getting expensive....again..).know anyone after a 1971 suffix a range rover??supercharged and nitrosed?

Do the larger engine victor , ventora , vx490 not have disc that should be a straight swap, check the owners club out ,

Neil the drums do separate from the hubs. Zen this is the sort of bracket you could make to hold the caliper, though when I did this type of conversion I had the bracket behind the flange.

Yes the disc fits over the hub. Most discs are like a top hat so the braking surface is stepped back for caliper to wheel clearance. Big discs to suit your hub/pcd are not hard to find.
