Vauxhall PA Velox (Cresta) V8 Swap questions

I have been debating what to do about my '62 PA Velox with the trashed engine, and ya know what? While a 3.3 with a Weber sounds neat, truth is, there is not a single part for that engine on our shores and I could see this being a real PITA.

So I got to thinking... there's a whole bunch of PAs in Britain that have V8s, why not build one over here?

I have some questions... basically, what's involved in swapping in either a Rover V8 or, say, a Small Block Chevy into one? Ideally I don't want to do major mods to the bodyshell of the car, but my basic thoughts are...

If a Rover V8, might as well use a 4.0 or a 4.6 out of a Range Rover, 3.5s are tough to find over here.

If a small block Chevy, that leaves all sorts of options.... but I think a 327 would be "period correct".

Ford 9" rear end, somehow I doubt the stock axle is up to a lot of torque, the Edsel ones are 5x5" bolt pattern.

So, without going nuts as this is in the planning (And welding.. arrgh) stages as of right now... What's involved with a V8 swap?

    Thanks very much in advance.

done one in a velox which i think is about the same.

i mounted the engine slightly over to one side to miss the original steering column. i also cliped the car at the same time
