A very good question Current thinking (DVLA/VOSA) is that it is an extension of the chassis parameters and therfore not allowable . The counter arguement is that is an extension of the front suspension ( especially if welded to it ) and is therefore fine . VOSA are loathe to issue a definitive answer unless it becomes an issue and currently are leaving decisions in the hands of DVLA.

As it is an extension / relocation of the suspension beam mounting then more likely to be classed as a chassis extension?

must be more acceptable than cutting a lump out the middle of the pan to make a buggie?

Chassis stretch/ shortening is a no no but altering wheelbase IS allowable providing you use original mounts. Normally that would be done in the 4 bars etc so it is the method of attachmnet that is the issue rather than what it achieves.

mmm good point - as the extender is using the original mounts and the beam add's on to it after then it's not an actual mod to the chassis itself

similar to jack up blocks on 4x4's - in principle at least.

I guess it would the same in principle if you lengthened 4 bar link's to move an axle further back for example ?

mind you got we over wider rims by stretching tyres (another old chestnut) so we will always find a way somehow
