    surely, unless the belt ran the other way round the w/pump pulley, then if the crank ran 'backwards' so did the waterpump? the vanes on waterpumps are usually angled/spiralled (is that a word?) to work only one way. i'd be changing the pump. regards, neil.

    They use what is known as a Bi directional pump. It's the same GM housing but different shaft impellor and seals.

    See here, you can see the vanes will run either way.

    Of course some one could have replaced the pump at some time, which is why I suggested checking the backplate is stainless

    I have just read this post, I haven't got a V8 (love the highly tuned V8's tho) I am constantly amazed by the amount of knowledge people have and share freely.
