    From reading the Castrol Man's post, I would rather go with too much additive (within reason) rather than risk the massive amount of damage that shagged lobes/tappets would cause from not having enough.

    Other than the risk of blocking the filter -not in itself catstrophic as the bypass valve opens, the only other risk identified was of attack on silver alloy bearings. I don't know about really modern engines but I think that Rolls Royce were the last people to specify silver alloy (so-called Gitter metal) for their big end bearings, this was back in the days when one's Chauffeur sat out in the cold.
