Where am i going wrong with my soon to be boat anchor?

    I have a Daimler V8 2.5, with a 371 GM charger and a 390 holley carb.

I've been messing around with it for a few days. I've cleaned its carb, set timing and it still wont tick over and is absolutely gutless. My daughters 1400 fiesta leaves it for dead!! Was going to take it down the strip at Hotrod Drags, but i think id of got shot because it would of taken 3 weeks.

Any ideas or should I use it as a boat anchor and put a rover in it?

    Cheers Bri

Soaked everything with WD40 whilst it was running made no difference.

Tech discussion is the place to be.
Most of the problems I've had with carbs is leakage on the maifold. put some fairy liquid around the intake gasket and run it, if it runs better then you know what the problem is. It wuill onl run better for a couple of mins (until the fairy is sucked up.......ooer missus)

Er ...... My Chevy was like that the day I put new plug leads on and got 'em mixed up ....... just saying like. It's surprising how well it ran, considering (although with eight cylinders to choose from it was always in with a chance), but it wouldn't tick over. I'd followed the firing order stamped on the inlet manifold - but unfortunately I'd devised a new way of counting the cylinders from the wrong end.

Might be worth having a leak down test done on all cylinders. Do you know anyone who has the kit? Very good for diagnosing condition of motor before taking plunge and stripping it. I guess you've checked all the standard stuff like spark strength, plugs, timing, good petrol in tank, tank vent not blocked etc.

Hope you can find the gremlins.

I've already tried WD40, fairy liquid. I was told to take the blower off and try it, but it wouldn't start, same guy reckons blower is knackered but wants t buy the blower. The blower was rebuilt a few months back with new seals, bearings and double pin rotas, so I cant see the blower being knackered.

    Cheers Brian
