White Walls / Flaps or not !

Way back in the mid 70s one of the things to do to your tyres if you didn`t want white walls or risk using flaps was to have a band maybe an inch wide in any colour ya like attached somehow round the wall of the tyre.

I seem to remember that perhaps the tyre was cut/ground so an inlay could be bonded on.

Any one know where or who still does this ?

    Hi All.

Yes its true I do have a WhiteWall machine.
Its an old American machine & is the same type that a certain fella who had deallings with Bay Area Rods has.
As far as I know he is still doing it in the Bournmouth area.
This type of WhiteWalling is big big business in Oz & they do a drive in drive out service.
It is done with the tyre still on the wheel & still on the car.
The tyres have to have done at least several hundred miles to let out all the impurities from the tyres.
Never ever use silicone or tyre dressing on the tyre as if you have done already, the tyre will bleed into the WhiteWall & eventually turn it grey ( or pinky brown if they are RedBands ).
As soon as I am up & running I will post up on this Forum.

    Regards:

Andy ( Alabama Mobile Tyre Company ).
