Will 225 tyres fit my 15 x 10 wheels OK

I have a set of wheels which are 10" x 15" and are currently fitted with 275 width tyres. I have been offered some 10 "x 15" 255 width tyres and wanted to know whether they would be OK. Can somebody enlighten me please

Title says 225, text says 255...

If its 255, and I assume a tall side wall, should be okay.
If its 225 you're into bodykit/neons territory and I'd say maybe but they'll look bloody awful!

Hi Jamie, yes I did mean 255's, just a typo error mate. I know 255's are just over 10" wide, but I wasn't sure if a 10" rim had to have a tyre a bit more wider than that. Am I making sense?

Hi Frank. 255 means the width in mm, so divide by 25.4 ( 1" ) = 10.039 inches wide. The other figure on the side is like 60 or 70 which is the percent of the width which is the side wall height. So 60% = 153mm or 6.023" tall side wall. Pete.

Hi Pete, does that mean that the 255 width tyres will be suitable for my 10" wide wheels as they are .039 of an inch wider?

Okay, in all honesty no tyres from two manufacturers will have exactly the same dimensions. A broad generalisation is that a 255 tyre with a tall sidewall will do better than a low profile one. A 255/50 might look a bit stretched but run okay, a 255/60 slightly better and a 255/70 just dandy. Just don't expect it to bulge like a Hoosier Quick Time.

Thanks Jamie, it's great to get an informed answer as I'm the worrying kind when it comes to safety in things which I have no knowledge.

    Thanks for your input gentlemen
