    Zetec into a Consul Capri

Well the extensive rust removal and repairs are finally nearing an end on my Consul Capri, so I have gone out and bought myself a black top 2.0 Zetec engine to drop between the rails. I thought about keeping the original steering system, which means retaining the original crossmember, but am now questioning whether the engine will fit without fowling the existing components. I know Zetec's have been fitted to Consul Capri's before, but the ones I have read about have used a steering rack and a later model steering assembly. I haven't actually offered up the engine to it's new home as the engine is being housed 5 miles from the bodyshell.
Any one have an answer to this please ?????????

i think with the amount of work you have already done swoping in a new front end would be a good move, iv not done a zetec but classic ford did an article on putting a zetec into a classic, if you go on old skool ford, how to, and look for zetec running stock ecu

Cheers Stevie, I'll take a look and see if I can glean any decent info ;-) By the way, how's your own Capri coming along, have you gotten any further with the body repairs mate?

when you come to sort the clutch, we've sussed a hydraulic conversion for the ford cable clutch boxes that's much easier than fitting a hydraulic release bearing. you can keep the existing stock pedal box so saves time there. let me know if you're interested. regards, neil.

rally design do a wilwood pull slave cylinder. so it does just that, the same as a cable. it won't fit between the clutch arm and bellhousing so you need to mount it in front of where the cable comes through. hang it off a bracket under the engine mount and make a new longer pull rod that passes through where the cable went to the clutch arm. a flexi to the body close by and a hard line to that and you're done. a 0.75" bore master works just fine, also from rally design if yours isn't big enough. we've just put one on scott's wife's pop after replacing the 1500 and box (hyd' clutch) with a 1760 and escort box (cable clutch). we can do it all as a pre made kit if it helps. x/flow, pinto or zetec to escort or type 9 box.

good call, i did make a bracket years ago to mount a hillman hunter slave cylinder to a type 9, never got to use it as i went to auto box but i suppose the principle is the same, a friend has made an adapter plate to mount the type9 to a classic capri engine and used the classic's original slave on there worked great according to the owner

You don't mention having a gearbox yet, may i suggest an MT75 as an alternative (comes in cable and hydraulic versions)
