    Zz502 flexplate smashed

    i have broken the teeth on my flexplate 3 times, Had a new high torqe mini starter fitted about 100 miles ago. Does anybody know the reason ?

    Are you putting the flex plate on the right way round?
    Starter to flex plate clearance should be checked.
    Also are you using the correct knurled starter bolts. IMO it's important to use these as they take up all slack in the bolt holes. regular bolts wont do this and will allow movement no matter how tight you do them up.

    Just jogged my memory, also check starter motot bolts lengths and those all th way around the bellhousing in case one is protruding too much and catching .

    Also make sure you get the right ones as Adam says .......... but i brought some that were listed for a sbc ............. but were too short

    Im not a lover of the mini starters as they dont allow fitting of the steady bracket and on a few of the mini's you can also adjust the starter on the mounting block as well as using the shims

    Im using the correct starter and the bolts that came with it also its shimmed ?

    there a small drain plug on some converters and the flex plate has a hole cut out into which the plug sits,quite easy not to line it up and your plate will not sit square so mis aligning the dog..
