41 willys Coupe Rebuild or not to rebuild that is the question?

I don't normally do things like this in fact this is my first post anywhere, but after owning Fat Rat for 16 years or so i have reached an impass.Should i rebuild it in the style i like or should i sell? After years of thinking about what i would like to do with it i formulated a plan, then stupidly i started to talk to my close friends and fellow Rodders, most of whom say it has survived this long untouched so should be left as it is. However i no longer like this style, after all it is 30 years old. I know it will always be Ian Dawe's Fat Rat no matter what i do. My dilemma is if i rebuild it to my taste am i destroying a piece of our Rodding history? Or
( as i feel) i am allowing the car to evolve and opening another chapter in its life. After all we live in a digital age now.

I suppose it begs the question, what style are you planning to rebuild it in? I can see that some would consider it a benchmark car, historic even. If it's still pretty much the same as when it first came out, then a dramatic change in style would be a huge (read expensive) undertaking and there is always the risk of the project stalling half way through and you end up with nothing to show for it. Have you thought about starting your new build from scratch? Wayne Streams has or had a couple of Willys stockers for sale and you would always have the option of selling Fat Rat to finance the deal.

Purely thinking ££ notes here - is there a possibility that someone may buy it from you and leave you a good way towards funding a new build.

Nice to know it is still around, personally I'm all for preserving it as it is, as I think it is damn near perfect as is and it still looks good today:

If your tastes have changed selling it is a good idea as mentioned above as I'm sure there would be plenty of people queuing at your door to take it off your hands. whatever you do, it would be great to see it at a show again.

It's your car. You don't need approval to do what you want with it. Better to change it and use it than keep it locked away...

Your ride, your way but personally I would sell it and invest the cash in what you want rather than spend serious wedge and untold hours trying to modify it into what you think it could be.

Fat Rat is a piece of UK rodding history and no doubt someone out there would have it as it is. However if you do put it up for sale and have no takers then you're free to do what you want with it. I wouldn't worry about what others think about "destroying" it. I'd rather see it on the street than have it locked in a garage because it isn't what I wanted.

You can always change it back but if you sell it - it's gone , I think all hot rods should evolve - Doane Spencer's had many looks , if it was mine i would " gasser " it and drive it everywhere I could
