Ive got 2 trucks both all original and straight 6's the 59 Apache ran fault free to le-mans and back. 63 C10 bought with most parts missing, but I'v emanaged to get most over in UK form forums or UK stockists. I've found a lot of parts in UK as common with others chevy cars or trucks. But just had to buy some parts from Rock autos in USA , but you pay import duty and shipping up front, so no surprises

My 57 runs on original frame and axles, lowered 3 inches with posies springs.
Brakes are easy to reline .I put taper roller wheel bearings on the front, and new master cyl and lines and radial tyres.
It drives good and I enjoy it. Drag link and track rod ends etc all cheap.
I don't expect it to drive like a new car/van.
It's all simple mechanics and you can buy everything for them. I run a hopped up 283 and 3 speed. It's fun I like it.

Mine drives like a big shopping trolley. Plenty of metal to metal going on.

Before I go spending my 'hard earned' on project I was wondering what the availability of run of the mill spares is like in the UK. Such items as brake parts, engine components. The bits that any truck that's been sat for 20 years should need changing.
Also be very grateful for any advice on what to look for, what to avoid and who to speak to.

Must admit that if I'd shifted my own toys I'd have probably had a chat with V8 Jimmy about his '57 Chevy 3200 stepside by now.

Any words of wisdom gratefully received.
Kool! thanks for that thought. It may be heading to Switzerland soon. A couple flew in to look at my stock today and are deciding which to have, but the '57 is looking favourite. For an idea of dollar prices, try Chevy Truck Parts Classic Parts Chevrolet Trucks & GMC as they have everything. Shipping parts from the States can be expensive but this will at least give you prices to work with, and dollars to pounds is about right, though from the bigger boys it will then be plus VAT. topspeed does weekly airfreight shipments and monthly containers. Brake shoes, cylinders, etc are best bought from the likes of topspeed as they are actually cheaper than the States suppliers charge.

they '57 only needed brake shoes, UK headlights, a screen washer kit and wiper blades. It would pass an MOT if it needed to, been well maintained and still tagged in California to Oct this year.

OK Jim, enough of your truck porn, I can't cope this early
Again, thanks for all the help and advice.
The temptation is to get something that's ready for the road, but the budget is limited and I'd rather have a good solid project than a rusty truck on the road.
The availability of parts is reassuring, we do get spoilt in the VW world though I must confess the quality of parts is getting worse each year..

Couple pics of my buggy if anyone fancies one
