I remember when Steve Berry was testing bikes for Top Gear. He picked up a new Harley, and later that day was on the phone to the dealers complaining it had broken down on him. They went out to collect him - sure enough, he'd filled it with diesel......

Re: diesel in a petrol car!!

Yes - we've all done it!
I put £70 worth of unleaded into my toyota (I even gave it a treat and put super unleaded in.)
Bearing in mind i was in the red on the fuel guage - it run perfectly for 20 miles - then coughed and stopped in 2o yards

The garage said - they do at least 3 of these a WEEK!

At lease knowing someone else is a pratt too, helps
    regards
    Ian

1/2 tank of unleaded in a 1.8 ford td out of a p100 in a Jago Geep then drove from brum to burnham it got there!!!! then I realised drained re filled with diesel and it ran so much better, petrol must have cleaned it out I think fortunately there was a hatch in the wooden floor allowing sender to come out and a mates little leccy pump to drop in, sadly a bit of silicon sealer dropped in too which caused me to stop when it got stuck in pickup pipe easy to sort though. was 3 years ago and not done it again!! that was def my "****" day lol

I ain't saying nothing as I see it as a problem for my future self, as I drive a diesel company car, have my own petrol daily car and a mustang, so it's gonna happen just a question of when and to which car....
    Happy days...

Happened to a friend of mine when he was out towing his caravan. Put petrol in his diesel car. Had to be towed home. In all he didn't get much change out of a £1000. That was including the full tank of petrol that he had to pay to be removed and be disposed of. He was gutted.

Often wondered why they dont make a petrol tank, with, say a round filler and a diesel with a square filler that dos'nt fit in the round hole. Sounds a bit nursery school/ simplistic ,but surely its that easy.
