    hopefully sorted now

I desoldered the origional fuse, and fitted a 20mm fuse panel mount holder to the MSD case, and soldered it in the place of the origional fuse

now the fuse can easily be changed and viewed

i havent tested it yet, i'll give it a try tomorrow

Well, i managed to get some time today, and fitted the msd. It works perfect

So if anyone has a dead MSD this is how to sort it. Make sure you use quick/fast blow fuses tho. Max 15A, i'm using a 10A fuse in mine, which is ok to use unless your car revs over 10,000rpm.

Alternativley, if you would like the mod doing to your MSD (no digis tho, sorry), then i will do it @ £30 thats including parts (cheap price for rods and sods members only)... which is still a lot cheaper than sending it to MSD.... and my mod is better as once its done, you can just replace the fuse yourself without taking the box off your car.

Also note, do not replace with a piece of wire, as it will blow the transistors if there are any voltage issues/spikes, as i have found on another MSD box shown to me.

I've also put the MSD on tamiya style connectors for ease of installation, and cannot be wired up incorrectly... also if your MSD fails it can be bypassed in a matter of seconds (eg on the hard shoulder of the motorway)

Interesting thread this...i,ve got a mallory hyfire 6al that packed up after about 2 months..(my fault i wired the earths incorrectly)
i,ve had a look inside it to see if it has a fuse like in the msd, but cant see one like that in it.......has the fuse got any type of markings on it...got to be worth a try to see if it can be fixed

yeah it says 15a 125v on the msd's fuse

i can have a look at it if you want?

if there is going to be a fuse on it, it will be right after the main power wire.

naa its not thermal, its just a fuse, nothing special, bit of a rip off on MSD's part to get more cash out of you. Shame really as its giving MSD a bad rep. I recon 95% of MSD's that get sent back is because of this....
