I changed mine from 1.4 to 6.3... DVLA wrote back saying they wanted proof of engine size and that it was fitted because they didn't have any records of a 6.3l engine (383 stroker). I had to get a garage to give me a letter on headed paper saying what it was and that it was actually fitted. That was a couple of years ago and I did hear afterwards they were checking up on people that were trying to change TAX class ie fitting smaller engines to save road tax

The doughnuts asked me to provide proof of engine change when I tried to register my lpg system!! I had to phone them up and explain in detail to them that fitting an lpg system doesn't require a new engine!!!!!!!!!!!!

i spoke too soon i got my v5c back a couple of weeks ago with all the details changed engine size etc and i looked on the dvla website and its all been updated this morning i got a letter saying thankyou for my application for a v5c but they will need a proof of engine size change ..as it was fitted before i got the car they said a headed letter from a garage confirming the change will do thats not a problem but just wondering why they still want proof after its been updated and they want me to send the v5c back with the letter from the garage even though its been updated !! i would of expected a letter before i got my v5c back !! i suppose i"d better send the proof though

If it's registered as Historic it DOES NOT require all that crap .nor has it been required for several years !!

Contact them and point this out to them.

Hi, Ive tried three times to change the engine size on my car from a 1.6 to a 8.2 and they keep sending me a letter back saying they do not believe an engine of that cc exists!! and yes the car is pre 73.

When I changed mine from 3500cc to 1997cc I got a letter asking for proof of engine size, due to 'road pricing issues in the future' which I took as toll roads. I pointed out it was taxed as 'historic' so I didn't pay road tax, their reply was 'at the present time, but government policy was liable to change' This was 5 years ago. Nothings changed yet!

Just goes to show how ****ing incompetent the DVLA staff really are. I have never heard so much mis-guided bull**** in all my life. All he info you need is on the ACE web site, if you can't find it, ask and one of us will help, but please, if they are wrong, take great delight in making them look stupid by pointing out their errors.

We (as a group) need to start managing the DVLA with the processes they have, rather than letting them manage us with processes they've made up.
