Original DfT questionnaire
Quoting from the DfT document:-
The Commission proposes to introduce a definition for a roadworthiness test that components of the vehicle must comply with characteristics at the time of first registration. This may prevent most modifications to vehicles without further approval of the vehicle. (this will apply to many components and to all types of vehicle)
The Commission proposes to change the definition of an Historic Vehicle that may be exempt from periodic testing. This may allow vehicles older than 30 years to be exempt from testing providing the vehicle has been maintained in its original condition, including its appearance.
Now they say ..
Department for Transport statement:
"This document [the tendered EU Roadworthiness Package'] is a proposal rather than final legislation. As such, all Member States will have the opportunity to negotiate the final legislation and everything within the current document may be subject to change.
The Department has sought views on the proposals from the industry. We will be analysing the proposals to find out what impact they will have on businesses and motorists. We will question rigorously any provisions that imply costs for Government, people or industry and seek to minimise these. We will be taking an active part in the Working Group meetings starting this autumn.
It is still far too early to comment on specifics of the legislation as a number of the proposals could be changed or dropped."
So if THEY were going to stop it in the first place why the questionnaire ?
Personal take is that the DfT wanted a kick off so they can use the public opinion with which to fight our OWN Parliament .
Everybody reads things differently Mike, some people, including Pistonheads believe there's nothing to worry about, others will say that we're ****ed, nobody can really tell you which is right or wrong, you really need to make your own mind up.
Kev, i sent you a message on ACE asking if there was anything for us to download on the site & send to local MP, The only way i read it was as if it was for clubs & bigger organisations to do this. Have i got it wrong? thanks. Gary.
It is only big organisations that DfT want to hear from via their questionnaire . However every citizen has teh right to write to his Mp /MEP experessing concerns. Draft letters etc are here
