they go well but drink fuel worse than most v8 daily's i've had. they have been known to snap crankshafts too, a guy i worked with a while back had it happen to his just to confirm that rumour.

I have heard about timing chain rattles so just wondered if they were ok apart from that, seen quite a few complete cars cheap
My other option was a 4.6 modular but again way too many electrics to make them run in an old motor and stand alone units very expensive,
or am I just as well bite the bullet and go the 302/351 or FE route with a non electric Aod gearbox , if I could get around 15 mpg cruising with a 3.56-1 diff I would be happy

There is plenty of room in the Edsel engine bay

a 302/351 without o/d would be ok if you had about a 3:1 diff ratio. it's never going to be a race car so cruising gears would be fine.

Just looking for something with more torque for towing, the 6 pot is good on fuel and pulls ok on its own but is crap when towing and the MPG drops to around 14 so might as well have a V8

He says aode mate, it's the electronic version of the aod.

Oh I missed the bit in the middle , He must have a stand-alone ecu to run the gearbox, I looked at a 4.6 Modular but it came without electrics and would cost an extra £800 just for the MSD ecu`s to run the engine and gearbox
I was thinking of an AOD for a V8 302 or 351 and if i went the V6 then a A4ld as these are non-electric
