    I remember ...

...a time when everybody wanted a new registration on their build and white / yellow plates were a 'must have' !

Memories is all I have After my last full blown stroke I'm surprised I'm not ****ting myself.

I remember the exitement of waiting for the new monthly magazine to be published so we could get our fix .

Waiting for the next Ally Pally show to see which one of Nick Butler or John Baldachino was going to debut a brand new unseen build that we'd ,if we were lucky, had only heard rumours about.

Not as old as you, but remember waiting with anticipation for the Tru Print envelope to fall through the door so I could show my mates what they'd missed at Ally Pally or similar (usually, only to find a selection of badly over/under exposed shots of the back of someone's head or a glaring reflection off chrome and paint). As for no. plates... vastly over-rated...

Torture!! Took at least 6 big vans and 50 people to get a grainy intermittent feed from an outside event.

A single standard A coupe was enough to attract a 6 deep crowd.

I'd drive from shop to shop as a lad on the day of the monthly CC or whatever mag release and each day thereafter until i'd found one.

I remember, when the coloured plates came out & not wanting them on my yanks although black ones were deemed illegal on pre 73 cars , we would have the black plastic plates made up , still remember being so excited getting to drive cars up to the cc show at Crystal Palace for my mate Pete darwell at mech sprays & being there on set up day for all the free food & drink & watching the cc girls having the racy the pictures taken , that was the first time I saw Micky brays pinball wizard & being envious as hell , hard to believe it was so long ago .

Eagerly turning to the 'classic cars' section of the classified ads in the local rag to see if there was anything interesting I could afford.

Waiting for Friday when the Autotrader came out... see above but with the 'bonus' of a grainy black and white photo.
    50 shades of grey primer....

Was never in the the roddin' side of things so for me (and so many others) life's 'Calendar' was set around the Exchange and Mart. I you wanted a Yank motor, any car really the E & M was the 'bible'. That wait until Thursday morning publication date. Is anyone embarrassed by their car choice back in the day (1970's) ? - Moggy Minors, Ford Escorts, Cortina's etc with jack-up kits, big 'n' littles and sidepipes with naff paintwork and graffic's? - my own embarrassment? - thinking back on a '68 Rambler Javelin with all the usual things like headers, big 'n' little Woolfies/ARE 'mag' wheels with the obligatory air shocks/jack-up kit and traction bars............nothing too embarrassing about that I guess........except for interior..........covered in mock Ocelot fur fabric (faux big pussy)!
