We used what we could get hold of though didn't we ? I pulled a very clean interior out of a Consul Capri and covered it in red fur!

Is anyone embarrassed by their car choice back in the day (1970's) ? - Moggy Minors, Ford Escorts, Cortina's etc with jack-up kits, big 'n' littles and sidepipes with naff paintwork and graffic's? - my own embarrassment? - thinking back on a '68 Rambler Javelin with all the usual things like headers, big 'n' little Woolfies/ARE 'mag' wheels with the obligatory air shocks/jack-up kit and traction bars............nothing too embarrassing about that I guess........except for interior..........covered in mock Ocelot fur fabric (faux big pussy)!
i too remember the days when the mart was just about the only place to find a yank for sale or to attempt selling one , once in awhile you,d find something in the london evening standard but that was about it no autotraders etc back then, a mate of mine found out the mart came into chatham railways station on a wednesday night so we,d go down there & bung the old guy to let us have a copy & be straight on the phone if anything good was in it , there were a few traders scattered about that had been around forever ernie at ej motors, cliff davis on the goldhawk road, pete tucker , terry & andie in the east end before they moved over to essex, sam over in the east end & a few others, was never really into anglias capri,s etc , always yanks & rods, have a lovely 65 impala super sport 396 , original black paint white interior sold it in chatham ,firt thing they done was cover it in white fur & put a starky & hutch paint job on it , but that was the look then , wish i had a few of em back . Hay Ray - bought a black freshly sprayed '67 390 GTA from the late Miles some few years back. Used to specialise in Mustangs up in Norwich near the airport. Really under-rated cars mid 60's Fairlanes - a surprisingly light car and a great alternative to a Chevelle or Goat and much better balanced car than the same powertrain in a Mustang.
Made the trip over to E J Motors at Blegborough Road Streatham from Romford for Yank bits a few times myself - I drive past Cliff Davis's place regularly - another outfit there now - still doing American motors. See/speak with Andy and Terry every now and then.

I still like that body style fairlane & so much cheaper than a super sport Chevelle , the yellow one came from Monty's in mildenhall right before he died ,bought quite a few cars from him ,Terry & Andys was always a great place to hang out always something cool in there & Andy was a character Terry was always a bit quiet , I stayed in touch with Andy for awhile after I moved here & found a few parts for him from time to time , next time you see them say hello for me , do you remember Nicky orme he was a character too loved to chop everything he got his hands on , he had a few nice 32,s back then ,he had a white 37 chevy coupe sitting in the dirt when he was off the roundabout in Essex , sat there for yrs, I wanted that car in the worst way & it was never for sale , I was at Ernie's the weekend before I left to come here , he wanted me to find him a 57 ford wagon when I got here , his boy les was barely old enough to drive at the time & he was running around in a 70 roadrunner with no back window in it ,he came over here a couple of times sold him quite a few cars for a time I hear most of them are sitting in his back garden rotting away now.

Yes I recall the late Nicky Orme too - didn't know him well - just one of the guys back then - had a unit in Elm Park next to railway bridge - moved out to Lincolnshire later.................Monty was that the breakers at Five Ways Corner at Barton Mills?
Let me know if you trip-up over a reasonably priced 66/67 Fairlane GTA or a '66 Galaxy 7 Litre

We must have had 10 clubs within a 20 mile radius back them , usually consisting of the same blokes just meeting on different days.

yeh the american car enthusiast world was very small back then most of the cars just kept revolving around the same people & for the most part they were all daily drivers until the next one came along , my dad was a heavy commercial motor trader in those days & hated yanks inspite of the fact he was involved with stock car racing back in 1954 & his daily,s in the early 50,s were V8 pilot,s every time i,d show up with some old yank he,d go off telling me what a piece of **** it was & why did i want something that could,nt pass a petrol station , i bet him a hundred quid when he bought a new vauxhall ventora wth no o/d that my little 289/4spd mustang would get better fuel consumption than his 6 banger guzzler , i took great delight in taking the money & treating him to a tank of petrol !, the guy i sold the mustang to for 650 quid still has it & i see him at the aylesford show with the car i was amazed it still exists ,he,s had it 44yrs & tells me he,s going to be buried in it !.

I remember going to a Hotrod and Custom Car at Park Lane underground car park London 1964 where Geoff's Jago One was on display. There was a Vauxhall PA there by a firm from South London the specialised in fibreglass. Only had a Brownie camera with no flash so never got any pictures and lost the program years ago.
