Early to mid eighties Chelsea bridge and Chelsea cruise are vivid memories for me also sundays at High Beach in Epping forest,.
I remember a dark red or maroon 68 Camaro with a Jag or Dana rear axle.
It had a custom paintjob too I think it was something like a lace job.

Remember going to the Ally Pally as a spotty teenager, and on more than one occasion I had the chance to take pictures of the custom car girls as they were running late with the photo shoot. What memories

First Hot Rod I ever saw was a green V6 Pop with wide steel wheels, parked up outside the Golden Egg (remember those) in Hemel Hempstead, it had a huge crowd around it. The car went through a few incarnations and later became "Cloud Nine" I think it was the same year local motor dealer Kevin Pilling got himself a HotRod 32 Ford, that was mind blowing. This was all around American Graffiti time and before you could say "what a waste of machinery" the town was full of jacked up Cortinas, hunters and Escorts. And a healthy hord of semi custom Consuls, Zephyrs and Crestas. Soon people were building rods and custom yanks and hey ho...
I was very much on the fringe of the big rodding scene but had a taste "of the big time" when my mate Kevin showed his Daimler at Alexandra Palace and I went with him to set up the stand. (I recon that was the winter of 79-80) so that makes it nearly forty years ago......

First real Hot Rod I saw in the flesh was an Opus HRF in 1969 parked outside a pub called the Cowshed on Ladbroke grove, then in Sep 1970 saw Mister T Ford pop when it was white, parked up in a Kensal Rise side street NW London. In 1972 at seventeen I passed my test, bought a morris 1000 van, and started "doing it up"..........a few years later still living in the Ladbroke grove area I drove out to Perivale to see a mate, on the way back to London on the A40 by the Hanger lane underpass I was passed at a great rate of knots by a bright yellow Morris van called Havoc......wow

A beach buggy did it for me, one of Volksrod's original demonstrators in the paddock at Oulton Park, October '69. I got in on a free ticket from Hot Car magazine. That was followed or possibly just preceded by Dragfest at Woodvale aerodrome Southport featuring the John Woolfe Scimitar and a Viva HB funny car, and Racing Car, Custom Car and Rainy City Cruisers shows at Belle View, M'cr.
