I thought the idea was to go fast ?

There's an interview on Eurodragster today with the head of the NHRA,the governing body of drag racing, this is a quote from him.............

"We're working on ways to address powering down the cars in order to
prevent(ET and top speed)ever quicker and faster numbers becoming
    the norm"

Most probably for the same reason for running some of the tracks at 1,000ft.

What would make more sense is a minimum requirement for run off of say 1/2 mile.

I guess safety is their main concern, but seriously, i have a big passion for drag racing, and the idea of slowing them down and now racing over a 1000ft rather than the full 1320 is getting me down! Them nhra top fuelers are still running well over 300mph in that shorter distance, it will still potentially kill them in a crash. So why not return to racing the full 1/4 mile? Its their choice to drive them dragsters, they dont have to get in them, i think they need to back off the restrictions!

Well the 1000ft was because the run off was really short.

If you think about it you need those chutes to decelerate the car at the same but inverse rate as what it accelerates. It's asking a lot. The run off is the main problem in my opinion.

1/8 mile tracks confuse me too, let's hope that distance never becomes the norm

Sadly, the big rider is the bloody telly........NHRA is big business now and any downtime ****s up the TV schedule..thats all its about, turning the motors down, so they dont go bang.....
Of course, that is what makes us different from other motorsports, being on the ragged edge.....I'm sure its one of the things that got us all hooked at an early age.
    Like the signs say
    Motoracing is dangerous..........
