If you had my mk2 zephyr....

Now, some of you might have heard me speculate about this on UK-hotrods but i will throw this out in an open arena on here...

What would you do to a MK2 Zephyr??

The reason i ask...as some of you might know i have a mk2 zephyr and to date fitted a capri 2.8 engine, 5spd box and lowered it 5 inches.

ive rushed jobs to meet deadlines for shows and fell flat on my face each time...
one time pushing the motor up the M6 - blocked fuel tank,
Me type 9 box blew up on the M6 getting to Classic Ford Show,
now my electrickery skills have failed me and im not going to the NASC Nationals in the motor, nut my trusty stead a 1ltr saxo.

The zephyrs bodywork ent the best and some might say its not worth doin to much to it, but its the 1st classic that ive set about to custom.

I have decided now to take it off the road, strip it down again and do it properly way in advance of next years show season and Hemsby, and apart from enrolling on a night skool welding course to aide with restoring panels i dont know what way to go with it, i do know i want uber it uber low ive always wanted a V8. I know its my motor and im the only one to decide what to do to it, but im curious...

I put it to you my fellow Rods n Sods compadre's, If you had a mk2 zephyr and a ratty rusty blank canvas what would you do it? restore it to factory original or custom?

If the answer be custom...what mods you do??

    over to you guys......

I've always liked Mk 2's and owned a couple many moons ago , a two tone blue Zodiac and a maroon Consul , they were both very tatty daily's though that ended up at the scrapper .

Now this is just my personal preference , I'd go along with the lowering , V8 transplant and a set of wheels but otherwise keep it totally stock looking ...an original paint colour(s) , all chrome and badges etc and a restored original interior .

    you

hi matey, its all down to you really,i years ago cobbled some right crap together ,i still am learning but when you have been doing it 30 year, you learn a little bit,you do what ever makes you happy after all whatever you do people will either like it or hate it, myself i would slam it ,back half it,small block it, but most importantly its down to what budget you are on, what ever you do its going to be good. and its always going to get a crowd around it. john.

Look at as many pics of them as you can and eventually a style that makes you go 'hmmm I like that' will jump out at you. Go with that style.

Or you could pick the brains of everyone on here and end up with a coup'd 2door saloon that's built like a pro street gasser (?) with kustom panel work.

Ps I'd go with the low, tubbed and the biggest stonking great V8 you can squeeze in there.

    lower it
    get it thru an MOT
    clean the glass
    drive the nuts off it
nothing worse than having it sat in the garage un-useable, saps the will out of you.

seeing as how you've got the V6 and 5 sp in there already, I would go with that, if it runs and drives then getting a ticket onto it by , say, next easter is do-able. Then you've got all year to mess about with it while still being able to enjoy driving it

Small block Ford, 8" rear, nice wheels, stock tidy interior, body & trim, monster tach, job done.

    OR: Full on pro street.

Whatever you do I don't think you can go wrong with a Mk2.
