How is it still registered here ? There's normally an export marker on the book that means an inspection before book re-issue.

Have spoken to DVLA and I just apply for V5 with a V62 and there's no markers on the car, so hopefully I won't have to pay any import taxes unless anyone knows different?

I'd have thought it would still have to pay customs as it will stil lbe an import unless it was you that shipped it out there ?

I dont think duties apply if it originated here. Some of the guys who bring back old brit classics would know.
Its certainly the case going the other way; you dont have to pay duty in the US if you take a Harley over there for example- 'American goods returned' I think its refered to as.

My brother re-imported an old Triumph from the states a few years ago, he did have to pay import duty on it, but at a reduced rate as against the standard duty + VAT deal at the time. I seem to remember that getting cars back to the UK without paying any duty is time limited; return of the vehicle needs to occur to the UK within one or two years of its export.

    Hi stueeee,

I think you are right, it always used to be within two years.

    Cheers.
