Slingshot drags - Info, some useful tips/ pictures please

    Hi,

well I've been interested in slingshots for a good few months now and as my frist project i'm going to be working on more of a homemade slingy, completely out of scrappy parts mainly.
Over time i will be saving up parts here and there, at the moment i have slicks/tyres and a differential.
Currently looking into getting an engine off a mate, A v6 essex & gearbox.

Just wondering if anyone could give possible specs, good advice/tips or even pictures that could help towards my build.
I'm more into the Mid 60's slingshots.. true beauty.

(ps- bare in mind, I'm not loaded with cash, still in school but I just want to make a start on my first project)

    Thanks,

    ~Adam

the v6 essex is a heavy lump, maybe a rover v8 would be better as its lighter and sounds better.they do come up for sale pretty often.(a mate has a couple of 3.9s kicking around think he may sell one).

chassis wise..look on eurodragster.com or the wild bunch site, you may get lucky.

a good site to use is ukdrn.co.uk.....plenty of old school drag stuff on there.

theres a few racers on here that will offer info..i am sure they will be along soon.

firstly i think your choice for your first car is spot on!!......
good luck and always follow your dreams....

    v6 you say?.... why not.

this car was run by phil sweeny(wb???) on here. he had a lot of fun with it... ill never forget that smile....
he no doubt will be along soon to give his version of events.
from memory this was his first dragster and since then hes been terminally ill.
(dont worry its the drag racing desease) he'll be fine.....
still running a drag car but a bit quicker?......
thats part of the problem, youll always want to go quicker....

anyway take a look at this feature,to me its one of the nicest dragsters built in this country in recent years, and might give you some ideas and inspiration?.

v6 essex, really the only reason im using it is because it seems ok due to the fact that it still shifts, as well as the fact that the slingshot will still be light. Also, due to money problems i can't get anything else (bigger) so my main option was that engine.. free and i just happened to be there at the right time when getting it.

I've been CADing some chassis designs/ ideas. Then me and a mate of mine tom harris will be working on a chassis soon, he's experienced enough should be easyer then paying god knows how much on pre-builts.

Brit, must admit both of them are wonderful, the link has some good information too cheers for that mate.

hopefully this v6 hes looking at getting will be for free. Looking at making a chassis rather than buying one, as he'l learn alot. I built the farina with my dad, taking on alot of tasks for the chassis alone getting me alot of experience with metal work/fabricating and would be good to build a slingshot with adam and teach him how to grind properly, have a go at welding etc as hes well mad into the drag racing now and the engineering behind the race cars.
When the flag drops, the bullshit stops.
