Uk spec or import? Your thoughts.....

Not quite rod based but we have a 9 seater Vito (and a crusty one at that) and the missus wants a replacement. To find a 9 seater merc thatís not rusty or done 300+k miles for less than £10k is impossible to find however, thereís a company oop north that imports mercs from japan, all registered and fees paid and ready to drive away. Theyíre roughly the same money (circa £10k) but they all are top spec models, full service history and are around the 20-50k miles. An equivalent Uk spec Vito with similar mileage would be closer to £15-17k (if you could find one without the moon mileage)
    Are they worth looking at?

One thing to look out for is that the Japanese don’t underseal their cars, there’s no protection at all.
We have a company near our unit that specialises in underbody protection and nearly every car they work on are Jap imports but, weirdly, they are always really clean and rust free despite barely having any paint let alone anything else on the chassis.
I suspect they don’t salt their roads.

To get it treated properly isn’t particularly cheap so it’s worth factoring it into the budget.

One of the things they say is that all of their vehicles are cleaned underneath and under sealed when they arrive

Some cars imported into some countries don't have any towing limits as some countries just don't tow trailers/caravans like we do, so if you're planning to tow a trailer just check that the VIN plate clearly shows two weights, the Maximum Gross Weight then underneath a higher weight (Gross Train Weight which is the vehicle max weight plus towing maximum weight).

I've seen quite a few Volvo estates being imported from Japan as well.

I have had 5 Japanese imports, 2 Imprezas,1 Isuzu Big Horn,Trooper, & at the moment own a Toyota Surf & a Volkswagen Polo Dune.
All of them have had no issues apart from I couldn't get the same shade tint for the Isuzu front windscreen.
The Surf is a 1995 model & I have owned it for over 15 yrs with no problems but i did paint some underseal on a few years ago.
It goes thru MOT every year with no problems but I only do about 5000 miles a year with it. They all have been in really good & clean condition when I bought them

I have 2 Toyota Soarers, owned em for 15 years. Graded from 1 to 5, if you buy a 5 it will be absolutely immaculate and true. Just got an 04 Ford Exploder from Japan, its like new underneath.

My first import was a stunning MR2 turbo. What fun car that was. Few years in and was shocked the mint car had rotten cills. Water had ingressed thru t-tops

Next one, Scooby WRX Waggon auto was a proper tool. Ran well but too juicy.

    Currently thumbing thru Skyline imports
