What diameter prop shaft do I need?

Hopefully in the final stages of finishing my Nova but need advice on what size prop to use. SBC with about 380 bhp at the wheels, 400+ ft lb, peak power should be at 6500rpm according to cam specs. Would any of this justify an upgrade from the 3" prop it currently has?

    Thanks,

    Keith

Id ask a propshaft manufacturer. When I've had a few made in the past they ask me the same questions as you have already given an answer to. in my experience they always go that bit over. I use Parkinsons in Boston lincs always spot on service.
If it's got tits or tyres, its gonna be trouble

Would be interested to see what you end up with.
I have gone with a 4" carbon steel prop and 1350 joints. Im running an LS1 that is putting out 491hp and 460lb/ft through a 4l80E to an uprated 12 bolt LSD in a 63 c10 shortbed fleetside. Expecting it to lose traction before stressing the drivetrain.
Think i have over egged the prop but better that than being weak??

Is it not in the yoke type bits where the strength upgrade is needed!?
With that power, wide sticky tyres?with LSD I imagine a non hi po prop would go boom in the night !!

The joints will fail before the prop lets go(having destroyed many of the line), as said 1350 joints are the ones to use, depends if you're going for slicks at Santa Pod and 4k revs or more off the line!
