We have an ultrasonic cleaner at work and the cleaning agent is the 'softest' one the supplier does and it just turned the boss's Cobra carbs dark grey, even in a 2.5% solution. It can also affect anodised surfaces. Vapour blasting looks nice but there is always a bunch of beads tucked away in corners and orifices - not something you want with a carb. Favourite, and gentlest, is probably soda blasting from what I've seen as it is very gentle on the metal surfaces.
