WHAT A WEEKEND!!! they don't get much better than this

4 months back, Andy(Fred)Hone & I started to upgrade his chrome-moly frame on his super-modified to pro-mod spec,

i started a thread earlier but to be honest i've not been home much to update it, should have had my mail re-directed to Freds workshop,

    heres the link to the 1st thread;
    https://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/sho...t=tube+upgrade

    after countless late nights,l
lost count how many times i got home at 1-2AM
how much tig welding? i got through 2 of the large 5ft bottles of argon
we finally finished the chassis last sunday (sep 21st)
loaded it on the truck to get painted at about midnight,

loaded and ready to go, upside down so not to damage the lower dzus fasteners,

Larry Ward dropped his regular work monday to start it,
Jake from the workshop next door dropped his work for the day to help Larry on it, unpaid i must add,

i cant imagine how hard they worked as it was back to Freds monday night

    tuesday, the assembly started,
we'd heard whispers of "they aint got a hope in hell of finishing that for the weekend"
    but carried on regardless,
this is about wednesday? all a bit of a blurr

lots of extra help was flooding in now from the rest of the smoke city guys,
thursday night there was about 7 of us on the car till around 1am,
the car virtually finished barring a few small jobs,
Fred and I were up there friday morning to finish then load up,
    WE'D DONE IT
just before loading Fred says to run the motor up for a few checks,
disaster! the fuel pump was ****ing out the overflow,
where the pump had sat around the seal on the pump shaft had dried out letting by,
we need a miracle, Fred remembered he bought a spare superflow pump,
fitted the spare pump, same problem but not as bad
left the pump running and the fuel softened the seal, no leak

loaded the car, now 11pm decided to go to the pod sat morning
Fred lives in the road behind me, picked him up in the Nova at 5.45AM
    sorry neighbours

    got to the pod,
    1st job scrutineering, passed

next, the big one, will the car be given the 6.00 25.1E pro-mod chassis tag we'd been working for???

    YES

got ready for the 2nd qualifying session,
opted to go for a solo pass,
i say "whats the plan Fred",
"launch hard, if it stays straight i'll keep my foot in it"

    1st run 7.57 @ 177mph
no1 qualifier! looks like we've spoilt the party

    2nd run in the 7.60s?

    sunday,
knocked out Nigel Payne in 1st round, but to be fair Nigel was on a spare engine,

had a bye in the 2nd round so Fred uses it as a test session to try new combination,
    improved to 7.50 @ 178mph,

    final against Tim Mugridge,
kept the same tune but tried to dial the chassis bit better,

    did it work?
Fred saved the best till last and won the final with NPB 7.42 @ 180mph!!!!!
that time would have disqualified him with the old chassis,

so looking back, was the constant hard work and late nights all worth it,
damn right they were, sunday was the perfect finish,
yesterday, you couldn't have knocked the smile of our faces with a sledge hammer.

although primarily it was Fred and i working on the car,
theres no way we'd have done it without all the extra help,
so heres a name check, apologies if i've missed anyone,

    Al McSweeney
    Martin(bunter)Downey
    Larry Ward
    Jake
    (pervy) Peter Thompson
    Vince (vin likes diesel)
    Richard Stein (great 6

    a sat startline video

    sun startline video

    and heres the man himself,
