    Where to start ?

Truck ran out of fuel again today ( no gauge and a big thirst at the moment while awaiting its new carb ) Topped it up with the gallon I carry ,up to the petrol station 100 yards away ( YES ,REALLY!!) and then drive 1/4 mile home...all good .

So the recalibrated fuel gauge and new tank sender turned up ( woohoo) so fitted all of that .

Started it up about an hour later and it's running like a sack

So, a list to work through ,in order, to check what's going on ,not a tech problem ...yet .However don't you just hate it when something you fix coincides with a totally unrelated ( I hope) new problem and when it could be several things at once ie , contaminateed fuel as I've just topped it up , fuel problem due to changing the sender or simply a new ignition component gone faulty ? Grrrrrrr

Actually here's one for you ,how the hell can an engine attempt to start when the distributor cap is removed from the dizzy and the rotor arm is in your hand ? Yup, occasionally fire from the engine as I was cranking while checking the points sparking ?? I'm thinking firing across the cap internally from the HT ??

I hope it's not raining tomorrow as well

Problem it's parked a bit to close to the fence to get a full circuit while skipping

Kev, I know it' slightly different, but still internal combustion petrol engine. I have a petrol lawnmower that runs better with the spark plug lead removed It sound like you may have a short somewhere or like Paul said Pre ignition?

    Cheers,

    Stu.

    Kev,

Nice one, at least it was a cheap easy fix and nothing worse.

    Cheers,

Sadly Kev there are a lot of them about recently. Have had the same problem in recent times and stories of it in the classic car world are commonplace.
