    Lightbulb White bays

OK, so what gives with white engine bays?

Was it just a kool thing to do way back when? or a cunning way to allow flexibility of main body colour?

I'm weeks away from a full paintjob and just thought, if I go off the chosen colour, then maybe if the bay was white, it'd be a whole heap easier to dust another colour over main bodywork later.

don't know about why rods and kustoms have it but military vehicles usually have white engine bays so that any fluid leaks show up easily, maybe that as most of the people that built rods etc were ex service men after WW2 the influance came from there.

Kev the reason for the diff is slightly differant, it is because when they are in military use they have a small light like a number plate light above the diff. this is called a convoy light and is used at night when doing a tactical move with no other lights on so that the vehicle behind can see you and follow you.

the small white patch at the rear/base of the scimitar above has a small light above it, this is for the same reason as the white painted diff. the engine bays on these scimitars are painted white for the reason i gave above and believe me are a bugger to keep clean (nearly 15yrs experience)

Wow eh, ya live and ya learn.

    Great replies.

Yeah Steve what a nightmare! if you've got louvres painted white - trying to keep em clean. You'd jack it in if the ride had wire wheels too!
