Would being self employed project manager construction not using car for work at all or an employed maintainance engineer, make any difference on a quote for a rod

Paul, a self employed project manager or an employed maintenance engineer wouldnt make any difference to a rate as you stated, you wouldnt be using the rod for work.

The problem would arise if the Rod was being used for work purposes in a construction or building trade occupation as these roles 99% of the time involve moving around several places of work (meaning class1 business use, and on the road a lot more) as opposed to commuting (to and from one place of work, left in a car park out of harms way for 8 hrs a day).

I can see the attraction of driving a Custom, Rod or Yank to work i.e. commuting as its ace to use as much as possible, but really, would you want to take it on site??

    Hope this helps!!
