Looking for history on this Nomad MLW 980 V

    Hi Out there,

I am looking for any history/info on my 57 Nomad, reg MLW980V.

I bought it last year from Martin Northcliffe, Sheffield as a work in progress and I am nearing completion (hopefully ready for spring). I believe Martin bought the car in pieces from an estate sale on a farm. The only other thing I have been told is that the car was imported by Real Steel in 1980(ish) when the car was Black. Other than this I know very little about the car

I would love to get some more info or old pictures of the Nomad if anyone has anything.

    Cheers

    Mark

WOW! Fantastic photo, I might blow that up and put it on the wall of the Garage for inspiration.

I have added some pics of progress on the car. The shots on the trailer are how the car arrived from Martin. I believe he bought it from a farm auction. It was disassembled and I think a lot of the pieces had different lot numbers on.

The story goes that the farmer had a hobby. He liked making models. He started on buses. He would buy a bus, measure it and make a model of it. Then put the bus in the barn. When he had done this a few times he then started on hearses. After that he moved onto american cars. All of the time filling his barns with these vehicles. When he died, apparently, you could not move in the barn for stuff.

Martin then did the hard work. The body was restored and painted with a lot of new parts with the car. It had rack and pinion steering, discs up front and a crate 350 SB with a rebuilt TH350 box came with the car.

Since then I have really been trying to maintain the standard that Martin started. I swapped the rack and pinion for a CPP 500 box with their shortened steering column. The rack sat very low and I have a very bumpy drive. I fitted a MSD ignition 8360 set up to get the car running and it ticks over sweetly now.

All the chrome has been redone, The wiring is all new, as is the glass, the new interior is going in now. I am not sure there will be a lot left of the original car... Needless to say the whole thing has cost far more than I ever thought possible but I don't want to compromise it.

It's a bit tricky to take good photos in my garage, can't get back far enough to get it all in. Once the front suspension is set up I will take it for a spin....can't wait
