    where did this '55 go??

As the title says really, I think the reg was TTX 55Y. It was black with chrome smoothies, loads of chrome garnishings inside & had a Jensen Interceptor rear seat. The car sat really high with a 283 Chevy & manual trans. I imported this car years ago & just saw this pic on Timetravels site, cheers.....Nige

Hi, just came across this thread.

I am the current owner of TTX 67Y. I bought the car around 14 years ago from a bloke in Wrotham, Kent as a rolling shell. At the time the car had been stripped apart (with no care at all for trim, interior etc) then blown over very poorly in metallic blue and silver. There was an engine in it (supposedly a 350) but no intake, exhausts, wiring etc so was a non-runner. The interior of the car had been painted with Hammerite all over except the floor which was covered in some kind of thick black crap.

Once I started to look at it properly I soon realised it had been "tarted up" to get rid of it. I found a lot of rust issues, I even found plates in the floor and boot which had been stuck on with mastic made to look like welds !!! The floor was badly distorted where the original shocks had punched through and separated the boot floor from the main floorpan. The resulting void (right across the car) had been filled with what looked like Polyfilla !

Six months after getting the car I moved house and ended up virtually building my own house from the small bungalow we moved to so the car sat in a garage untouched for about 10 years.

4 years ago, and now with a nice new garage, I began to strip the car down completely. I made the decision to completely cut out the floor from the bulkhead backwards literally to the rear bumper, it really wasn't worth repairing. At this point I enlisted the help of a professional due to the size of the task. It was transported to his workshop where the body was lifted off the chassis and work began. Now, nearly 4 years later, the body and panels have all been repaired and painted. The chassis is currently being shot blasted and painted.

The 350 lump has turned out to be a 327 which has now been rebored and rebuilt with some mild performance parts. I am hoping to get the car back on the road later next year although it won't be complete. I will post some pictures at some point.

I would be interested to hear more about the history of the car, especially in the USA if this is known. It was obviously used on the strip at some point and has had a very hard life !

My brother had the car for some time. He bought it from across the thames, I drove it home and the clutch went but managed to get it home.
Had to stall it at the tunnel boths then bump it to carry on, which was fun.
There was a problem with the engine and so he bought the 327 with a tunnel ram on it from a guy I use to know in Stevenage. It had sun gauges on the steering coloumn was a loverly car and drove well with the 4 speed and tunnel ram. he also fitted a bayonet as gear stick which I have in my coupe now.
My brother also bought a 57 ragtop and so I got to take the 55 to all the shows, happy days.
He sold it to a localish guy who then paid someone to pull it apart and do stuff to it but I think he got ripped off with many parts going missing and getting damaged then he got fed up and sold it on.
    Have a few pics somewhere

doh! just realised I already replied to the other thread

Thanks for the reply and the photos. I probably saw the car at Knebworth as I used to go to the shows there back then when I used to live in north London.
Your brother must be the guy who lived in Bexley Heath who sold it to the guy (Steve ?) in Wrotham who I bought it from.
It was my understanding that Steve tore the car apart in his BMW garage (ran his own garage specialising in BMW repairs). For whatever reason he lost interest after the car was painted (not a good job but he tried to convince me Mechspray had done it, I spoke to Mechspray and they said they had never seen the car. I eventually found out it was sprayed on the cheap by a guy in the Dartford area who specialised in Mustangs). Steve then sold off things like the Sun tach to get some money back before selling the car to me.
I did manage to speak to your brother once and he told me the 55 had suffered as it lived outside on his drive for several years whilst he was restoring a 57 convertible. I lost his number so haven't spoken to him since. Did he ever finish the 57 ? What car do you drive now ?
I've still got the Camaro bucket seats and Interceptor rear seat the car came with. I have sourced a front bench seat but still need a rear seat.
You'll have to come see the car in the new year, you're not far away in Chelmsford.

Yes He lived in Bexleyheath, it was a shame the guy pulled it apart, it needed a bit on the floor and inner sill but that was it. Terry almost finished the 57 and sold it,
    he's not really into cars.
    This is my car

The owner & driver in these pics is Jeff Waldon, his brother Chris (passenger in the last pic) was the owner of the super cool 1965 Ford Galaxy, red with a 429.

Ha Ha, that's me in the Lifestyle t shirt.
