Advertised yet again due to complete lack of time & diminishing enthusiasm.
1960 Chevrolet Impala 4 door Sport Sedan (pillarless 4-door).
Car originally imported into UK in 1989 by Luxury & Power. The car was originally a 348 car and hence still carries all of the 348-correct badges. Listed below is what I have done. The car is MoT'd until November, taxed (free) and UK registered with the V5 in my name.
Body. This was very good, but not perfect. All exterior was bare-metalled & any rust sandblasted out. New lower rear wings, boot floor rear edge, front floor pans replaced with new panels. Door bottoms repaired & lead loaded. Rear lower edge of roof replaced, rear boot floor crossmember replaced, lower B/C post & crossmember repaired. Car was then painted with 4 coats of 2 pack gloss. There are still some scratches in the paint where I colour sanded it and there are the odd scratch & chip as it was painted over three years ago and has sat in the garage along with the usual collection of bikes/lawn mower etc! Ideally it needs more compounding & polishing. I have got around 4 litres of black & 1 litre of white paint left over.
Runing gear. I replaced bushes, ball joints & anti-roll bar links/bushes (front), master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes, pipes etc (all round), handbrake cables, power steering hoses etc, etc. The front is fitted with Corvette springs which has lowered it by around 2 inches.
Engine is now a 305 M-series with Vortec heads, these are NOT smog motors and put out around 260bhp as stock (ask on chevytalk.com), this one is a low-mileage unit that is fitted with an Edlebrock inlet & carb and has cast-iron rams horn manifolds. Gearbox is a TH350 (rebuilt by the previous owner) and is fitted with a transmission cooler. The car has a HEI distributor.
Interior is “fair”. The original Impala seats were poor, so some black vinyl covers have been fitted (front one needs cleaning/painting), a new headlining is fitted, but has several wrinkles at the rear. A new carpet set is in, but is dirty. I think all of the gauges work, but the radio doesn’t.
Trim. All exterior stainless is present & good, the bumpers are “okay”, some pitting & marks, but look presentable with a polish & suit the car.
Wheels are new 17” diameter Torque Thrust 2’s (8” rear, 7” front).
Problems. If you're a regular here you'll know that I just cannot get the car set up right as it runs so rich it makes your eyes water (see Tech thread: https://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=11988 ). The silencer on the drivers side is ripped open and needs replacing (the entire exhaust was N.O.S). Also the diff oil seal is leaking and the speedo only works as & when it feels like it! There is some play in the gear linkage meaning you can only start it in "Park", I was going to make a new linkage using rose joints to remove the slack.
I have a lot of spares (bonnet, wings etc) and manuals to go with the car.
It will need trailering due to the running problem.
Please only enquire if you’re serious. Price is £6,000 firm.
