75 VW BEETLE 1641 THE TEMPEST ( Dad's Daily ).
In case you dont recognise the car...........
It was built by Jay Townsend at Thump Thump aprox 20 years ago, for his dad & was named at the time " Dads Daily ".
It was Lilac at the time & was featured in VolksWorld Magazine in March 1991 & again just two months ago in December 2010.
It also won several awards at numerous shows.
Fast forward two or three years after being first built in its first ( Lilac ) incarnation.
The car was sold on & within a few months came back to the Thump Thump workshops to have a total makeover.
This time it was grey & was re-named " The Tempest ".
It made its first showing when it was one of the exhibitors at the first VolksWorld show at Sandown ( its exhibitor plaque is still fitted on the fan shroud ).
This was the only car that had two makeovers at the Thump Thump workshops & is also ( to the best of my knowlage ) one of only two of three Thump Thump creations to remain totally unrestored & unchanged today.
If you dont know who Thump Thump is ??????
They were the creaters of BillaBug, Tara Bug, Lemon Bavois, etc.....
They were the big boys back in the day of custom Bugs & their history can be looked up on the " Thump Thump " & " B289 " forums.
Now a little about the car as it is today..............
I found her about three years ago in Peckham, South London & was still owned by the guy who bought it off Jay Townsend ten or so years ago. ( jay has owned this car a couple of times ).
The car had been off the road for a long long time & other than a brand new gearbox fitted, had not been changed at all.
All I have done to her is mop the paint ( which came up pretty damn good ), fit new tyres, fit a new Puma front beam ( sits lower now than in the pics shown ).
And err well........thats it im afraid.
Due to work commitments I have not had the time to do anything really & now I could do with selling her.
The paint is Rover Hurricain Grey.
The body is pretty much rot free, but there is the odd dig, dent, scratch & blemish ( I am being very very picky ).
The underside appears to be pretty solid.
The Heater channels were either replaced when in the hands of Thump Thump, or are in fantastic condition ?
The same goes for the rot free floor pans.
The only hole I can find is on the drivers rear floor to inner wing meeting area & will need a small plate.
It has early front panels & smoothed out rear panals.
The Wings, Bonnet, Decklid & Valances were new replacements when The Tempest was being built.
The front indicators are hidden in the Bumper, as are the rear lights.
The smoothed rear valance has been made removable.
The body is fully De trimmed & De badged.
The Bonnet & Decklid have been De handled.
The headlights are Porsche 911 with genuine Bosche lenses.
The one piece windows & rear side windows are tinted ( screen is a top tint ).
The dashboard has been smoothed ( in steel NOT a bonded cover ).
The steering wheel is an original super rare Thump Thump stainless steel " Sport " one ( NOT a GCC copy ).
The front seats are floating ( hidden floor mounts ) & match the rears.
The wheels are Polished Peugeot 205 GTi alloys & the hubs redrilled for them to fit.
The tyres are new Conti 175/55's & Mich 185/65's.
The engine is a tuned 1641 fitted with the usual Webber carb, 009 Dizzy, Empi exhaust, Electric fuel pump, Alternator, etc.....
In the pics you will see the carpets are missing.
I am supplying a brand new grey carpet set I had custom made by Cool Air.
I have also aquired some of the rare parts I was going to retro fit.....
I.e. A pair of original Baby Tornado Cal Look mirrors.
A pair of NOS " painted " door handles with locks & keys.
A NOS " bare steel " rear bumper, that I was going to modify for the fitted hidden tail lights ( I wanted the slits slimmer than they are currently ).
The car runs & drives ( but I hav'nt tracked it or bled the brakes or come to think of it......refitted the fuel tank after fitting the new beam ).
Also remember that this car sat in the same place before I bought it for several years.
Seeing really is beliving when you take a look at this " genuine " Back to 89 custom Bug.
Not many from that era survived in as good condition as this one & is a true homage to the build quality of the cars that left the Thump Thump workshop.
Obviously it has NO Tax or Mot.
The car was based on a 75 1200 & is on an " N " reg so is NOT tax exempt ( before you ask ).
I have the V5c & it is in my name & address.
The car is garaged & is in the area of AbbeyWood, South East London.
This car WILL NEED TO BE TRAILERED or similar.
I can deliver the car for you on my Towing Dolly at a cost of 75p per mile ( one way ).
Email any questions to me by replying on this thread, or you can PM me.
You can also call me on 07930 890427.
I am not interested in ANY swaps or P/X's.
It is a cash sale only.
The price im asking is very underpriced at £2,995 ono.
This is because I want a quick sale.
It would take in my estimate a good weekends work to get it Mot'd & back on the road.
I should have done it ages ago, but just dont get the chance as work is just soooo busy at the moment.
Rare chance to own a piece of VDub nostalgic history which was built by one of the best.
