CoolWhat do you expect from an event?

    Hi there,

Hopefully posted in the right place..

We have got together a small group of people, some with good experience with putting on show weekends.

We're aiming to start a new show Easter 2015 in Cornwall. At the moment it's a Vintage / Hot Rod / (old) VW type show.
    Very very family orientated.

The time and money we are putting into this is unreal we really want to make it work, but we do need some feedback.

So... What do you guys and gals expect from a weekend show, is there anything you want that has not been covered yet?
What are your main gripes? is it ticket prices? lack of facilities?

We really want to make this the best of it's type, any idea's or recommendations will be gratefully received.

    Not a bad idea ...

Looking at the success of wheels day (good friday) its always a good turn out

but for a weekend show what I look at most is the weather

maybe I am getting old but I really dont like camping in cold wet windy fields !!

Saying that we have had some blinding easter weather occasionally

    Thanks for the reply's guys,

Not sure if our budget will stretch to cloud seeding, we'll just have to butter up the Met office.

On the site we have pitches all ready for caravans, we could make these available.

Beer and Music will be sorted, we're currently looking out for good bands - again if anyone has favourites let us know!

    Anyone with families..

If we had rides, bouncy castles etc, would you prefer for the cost included in the tickets or to pay traders?

We want to ensure that no little one gets bored!

My personal view (influenced greatly by the wife!!) is that the most important thing is good showers and toilets, that are regularly cleaned. I never hear the end of it if the showers/toilets are scummy, so it affects my weekend massively. As most shows are on soft ground and the weather in this country is unpredicatable it amazes me that more isn't done to keep facilities clean. Generally we don't return to venues with naff facilities. For example, Beaulieu used to be one I could easily persuade wifey to go to......but after the degrade in facilities this year it'll now be difficult. Security is the other issue i.e. only people on site who should be with restrictions of the "paying public" not being allowed into the weekend particpants areas - just feels safer that way.

We can all bring beer, music etc. and you expect participants to bring the cars so everything else pretty much takes car of itself......

    Good luck.

Static cabins would be good, as it a long way to cornwall for a lot so saves on fuel towing the teardrop, toilets and showers like said clean and good. maybe a 4 day show or least setting up from midday on Thursday makes the journey worthwhile.

so toilets and showers - noted and agree whole heartedly. Statics - We'll look into the local parks, maybe we can get some discount for weekend ticket holders..

Keep the feedback coming it will all help. even if you think you've got an idea that's a bit nuts ... you'll never know until you ask!

Brilliant will add to the list - we were going to try for 2014, but if we give ourselves till 2015 then we have a better chance for booking good bands and well getting it right!
