    3001 Transit

    posted by MOPAR is offline

    Builder: Autocraft Customs
Vehicle Name: 3001 (A Space Oddeysey)
    Year Built: Circa 1978
    Base Model: Ford Transit
    Current Owner: Steve?
    Classification: Van
    Current Location: Unknown

This van was rather special & unique back in its day.

above pics, 2nd essex clubs run 1979 by mopar.

couple of paper cuttings relating to that show. pics by mopar.

sorry couldn't resist this, its a cutting i had in a scrap book i wrote out when i was about 11, i think it accompanied the black & whites above pic by mopar.

finally this is the last known condition that i know, very sad.

    borrowed pic.

it had been purchased by someone who was restoring it, anyone know anything more?

Over 3000 photos, including links to my photobucket, of historical interest, going back to the early 70's, covering early custom car shows, rods and yanks, all deleted from this site.
A mod removed my posts, I removed all my photographic historical content.

We were commissioned by Ford Motor Co. to create a show vehicle.

Although it was really for Ford Europe, we had a meeting with the directors of Ford USA who approved the design.

I came up with the theme and 'name' and designed and executed the artwork. Dug Thompson did the interior.

Dug also contracted the engineering. I can't remember who built the drivetrain, hopefully Dug will come on here and supply that info.

Ford flew us out to Brussels for it's debut appearance. I was there for a few days, but can't remember much for obvious reasons.

From what I gather it is now in quite a state and beyond restoration (3001 not Brussels).

I had heard that during amateur restoration too much rust had been cut out without reinforcement and the van had 'broke it's back' and was sagging in the middle too much to be saved......... I do hope that I am proved wrong.
I seems that expert help was offered but turned down...... shame.
