Former VDub fanatic about to turn to the dark side ...

    Afternoon one and all!

So I'm Claire from Norfolk, but living in Lincoln and trying to get back into the land of money pits after a few years away!

In my former life I owned VWs, some pretty darn nice ones at that (Early bug, Splitty, Notchback & Corrado G60) but after enjoying the luxury and comfort of a Ford Focus for the last few years me and my hubby have decided to finally fulfil a lifelong dream of owning a Noisy Gas Guzzling Amercian V8.

I'm a bit rusty on forum life but there will be questions (oh so many questions!) as we need all the help we can get.

    Hope you're all friendly?

Welcome Claire from another ex Vdubber!
Most peeps on here are fairly well house trained and, like all forums, it has it’s characters as well but I’m sure you’ll be fine

There’s a lot of very knowledgeable people on here that are also helpful

Welcome to the dark side but you have now seen the light. Nothing better that being parked up waiting at a set of lights in nice v8 with a decent cam. Never gets old and neither does the kickdown when you nail it.

Thank you . What VWs did you have? I miss the whole car scene. Summers at shows camping and drinking beer!
It'd be great to get back into that again

What decade/years do you like? I favour mid 60s as the designers where still left to have some artistic licence but the driver aids like power steering and disc brakes started to become standard.

Definitely 60s. We're going to see an AMC Rambler, a Ford Falcon and a Galaxie. They're all early 60s but very different cars in terms of style, condition and price so it will be interesting!

Any advice on what to look out for?

    Hello the Gryswalds and welcolm,
I'm not too clued up about American stuff myself (Zodiac owner) but I would be taking a look at parts availiability, as far as I know is a lot better for American Fords than early English stuff (little brother has an early Mustang and he can get just about anything for it where as finding bits for a 64 Zodiac is a real pain) not too sure about the other American Makes tho

After the handling characteristics of a G60,you’re going to be disappointed with a gas guzzling Yank
