1931 Ford Model A Roadster
We have thought a lot about this, and it is with a heavy heart we are selling this car. It is too good to use and abuse on the dirt and sand which is something we find ourselves enjoying now.
The car is an all steel genuine ‘31 Roadster. The donor car was presentable, stock and supplied the body and chassis. There is a genuine ’32 grill and shell, new ’32 tank and dash panel fitted. Car also comes with original ’32 bumpers and spare wheel kit. Original good condition soft top also. It still has an old paint job on the body, very much doubt original but must have been done years and years ago. The fenders are newer paint. The grill shell, tank and dash panel are new paint.
This car was built to be driven daily, and with the slightly patina’d paint we have no hesitation parking up in town and using for shop runs.
The car sits low and fits the wheels perfectly. It is one of the best sitting rods I have seen, in my opinion of course. A lot of thought went into tyre, wheel and suspension options. Sits on new Firestone 6.50 rear, 4.50 front tyres and 16” wires. The chassis is the original model A, fully boxed and a zed in the rear. Reverse eye springs, 4” drop axle, banjo rear.
Has all Ford ‘40s parts including juice brakes, steering, rose joint dog bones. All underbody fasteners are stainless steel. Finish of underside is a combination of powder coat and paint.
All new wiring harness, cut out switch, 12V, under seat fuse board and relays. Protector cloth used underneath and routed and fixed properly. Full set of SW gauges including tach. Everything works spot on and reads accurate. All lights and horn work as they should, American style lighting. Battery secured next to rumble seat.
Interior has new naugahyde seats including rumble, new carpet, door cards. Repro ’40 Ford steering wheel. All switches other than starter under dash. Indicator lights and main beam on dash.
Engine is a ’49 8BA with 4” crank, Isky cam, Offy intake, three Holly 94s with progressive linkage. Starts on centre choked carb, outer two come on about 50% throttle. Holley fuel block and regulator, Holley fuel pump in rear. Has MSD electronic ignition in dizzy & 8mm leads. Electric fan. Headers lead to Smitty’s mufflers exiting underneath car. Engine mated to a custom adapter and T5 with McLeod racing clutch. Built prop to suit.
We bought and imported the car a year ago, 95% finished. Now all complete, with V5 in my name. When we got it there was 200 miles on the build, it now has 1200 miles and goes up daily.
The car needs nothing, get in, and ride the crap out of it. It is fast, very fast for an old timer and handles as well as a crossply motor should. It also stops very well on the larger Ford drums. It will run at 180 all day. Car should meet VHRA approval if you wished. We ensured 500 miles on the odo driving careful, did an oil change, then used it. We’ve done a few events this year including Barnstormer dirt drags and Race the Waves in Brid. Car was flawless running at 65mph in the 1/8th on grass and 70mph in the 1/8th on sand.
Any questions or additional photos please ask. You will though need to see and drive this car to appreciate it, guarantee you will fall in love. Next event Dragstalgia if you want to see it there.
