I bought this bike with the intentions of turning it into a bobber, it has sat in the garage for 2 weeks due to work but today I started bolting it together as it came in boxes, I just wanted to know what was there and if I need anything and what parts I don't need. The first photo was the inspiration for the bike the next three are as it stands now. I intend to hard tail it and add a single sprung seat.







All feedback welcome, any ideas or advice also welcome.

Today I have managed to remove the rear subframe, I then tacked a couple of lengths of angle from the frame to the swing arm so I can check out the ride height. Tomorrow I will get some pictures and work out the length of pipe required to build the rigid rear end :tup: Things are progressing rather well and hopefully I can get the back end sorted by the weekend then strip the bike and rub it down ready for some primer and some black hammerite on the frame. :)

Have you changed the angle of the top tube of the frame? The tank looks like it's leaning back more in the latest pics. Perhaps it's just the camera angle.

Anyway, cool little project.

Not touched the top tube angle at all, the bike just sits lower at the back end giving the impression of a racked front.

I tacked some tubes on today to give the overall effect, these will be removed and replaced with thicker wall and slightly larger diameter tube but it gives a rough idea of what it will look like. What do you think of the number plate position?

To give you an idea I am 5'7" (just) but I will get a picture tomorrow for you :tup: It is small though even I can reach the floor flat footed :pmsl:

was'nt trying to be funny... well maybe a bit, but im toying with the same idea myself but id prob need something a bit bigger in size!!

Squeaka, Could be worth looking for something bigger as it really does sit low, and I think I may be a bit cramped on it.

Badger, came with the bike and is (what is left of it) the same colour as the side panels etc, so have no reason to believe it isn't the CD tank. It's the same as the spare I have aswell, so I could actually have 2 CB tanks, but hey they fit and look ok.

i think the tank is cd125/185/200 seems the right shape. anyway cool looking little bike you got there. i actually like the look of the first picture. i've thought about doing this sort of thing for a while to my daily ride to work bike - a cd250u honda! you may just have inspired me enough to do it now :tup: keep up the good work. steve.

First off I'm not criticising, and my mate is just finishing a CB900 built in a similar style...but before you go any further, and taking into account your comments about being cramped, can I suggest you consider extending the wheelbase. If you move the rear wheel backwards by a couple/few inches you might be surprised at how much extra room you gain both for yourself, and for electrics etc under the seat. By the time you've got a rear 'guard on there (if you are fitting one) you may find you're running out of room for a seat! Personally, I would always extend a hardtail by a couple of inches for practical reasons and cos I prefer the look - me and my mate have had this argument many a time tho'...

I never thought of that, I was just keeping everything the same as the original wheelbase wise. I think I may well do that, thanks very much for your input, bearing in mind this is my first attempt at a bike it's a steep learning curve, but we all have to start somewhere :tup:

Internet went day for a couple of days due to pikeys nicking all the cable, reportedly around £64K worth. But I have managed to get a couple more pictures of what I have done.

Here is a picture of how small the bike is:-



For the eagle eyed of you out there, you will notice that I have changed the tank, not for any reason but it was the first I put my hands on for the photo, and I have also fitted the 200cc engine as this will probably be the one that I use :)

Headlight possible position, what do you think?

i think it would look better if you streched it out abit as jaydub suggested... tank looks cool, from what i can see :tup:
